A message of solidarity to our trans community
On November 19th last year, we launched the We Welcome All campaign across Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. This was in addition to our ongoing Stand By Your Trans Campaign, adopted from our Patron, trans activist and actor Kate O'Donnell, back in 2017. We are asking businesses to put our We Welcome All sticker up in their window to show that they are a safe space for trans people and the whole LGBTQIA+ community.
This campaign was launched due to the seismic rise in anti-trans rhetoric across the UK, and since then the EHRC Code of Practice has been laid before government and is due to become policy around 30th June.
Our trustees are working with our Allyship Associate, Jenn Wilson and we would like to share the information at the link below about challenging the proposed EHRC Code, which must be done in the coming days:
Please do read it if you would like to understand more about why this matters now.
We remain deeply concerned by how this guidance will affect life for our trans+ community, who deserve equal rights and to exist with the same dignity afforded to the rest of society.
If any of this is hitting close to home, you don't have to sit with it alone. Mermaids, Galop and Switchboard are there to talk to, alongside your own friends, loved ones and local groups.
