A community quilt celebrating identity, creativity, and connection in Hebden Bridge.

In the heart of Hebden Bridge, where creativity runs as freely as the river through the valley, a new community project is quietly stitching something powerful together. Locally known for its creative community, Pride is celebrated by the LGBTQIA+ community and our neighbours.

Craft & Canvas is a queer owned and run craft and art supplies shop in Hebden Bridge. The owners, Greg and Mark, are inviting makers of all kinds, from knitters, crocheters, quilters, embroiderers, and complete beginners, to take part in a collaborative piece for Happy Valley Pride. The concept is beautifully simple: create a textile patch that represents what Pride means to you.

Happy Valley Pride is Hebden Bridge’s local pride celebration. Reaching its 10th anniversary this year, we want to celebrate Pride and what it means to you. We will welcome contributions from our local creative community, the UK and further afield. The only limits are your imagination.

There’s no right or wrong interpretation. Pride might be bold and bright, soft and subtle, political, personal, joyful, defiant or all of the above. Each piece becomes part of a larger story, brought together through thread, colour, and shared expression.

How it works

Create a piece that can be joined into a larger quilted artwork. The only guideline is size:

Your piece should be a multiple of 15cm. For example, 15 x 15cm, 15 x 30cm, 30 x 30cm, and so on. This allows every contribution to fit seamlessly into the final installation.

Beyond that, creative freedom takes the lead.

•           Knit it

•           Crochet it

•           Stitch it

•           Embroider it

•           Patchwork it

Whether you’re working with yarn, fabric, mixed media, or something entirely unexpected, every contribution is welcome.

A quilt of many voices

What makes this project special is not just the finished piece, but the process itself. Each patch represents an individual voice, that will be stitched together to form a collective expression of community, identity, and belonging. Our own Pride creative quilt. It will be given to Happy Valley pride as a symbol of Pride and the LGBTQIA+ wider family.

In a town known for its openness and creativity, this quilt will stand as a tactile, visual celebration of Pride, not just as an event, but as a lived and shared experience.

Get involved

Your completed pieces should be sent or dropped off at Craft & Canvas, 3 Carlton Street, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8ER by June 30th 2026, ready to be assembled into the final quilt for display as part of Happy Valley Pride in Hebden Bridge.

Whether you contribute a single square or a series of pieces, your work will become part of something bigger - a collaborative artwork that reflects the diversity, creativity, and spirit of the community.

So pick up your needles, your hooks, your thread… and make your mark.

One patch. Your pride.
