Safeguarding
Happy Valley Pride believes that a Safeguarding Policy isn't just a piece of paper, but a ethos for conducting our business.
Safeguarding underpins our approach to delivering events and activities, how we work with the community and our recruitment of staff and volunteers.
Happy Valley Pride works with young people under the age of 18, as well as some adults who meet the definition of ‘adults at risk’. Our safeguarding policies have been agreed by the board of trustees and are part of volunteer and staff training and induction. We have a designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Lead. We also actively work with organisations to provide safeguarding over and above government requirements at appropriate events, for example our wonderful event security company, Serenity, we use has a lot of experience of working with LGBTQIA+ organisations and mainly operate on Manchester's Canal Street.
Our Youth Engagement Manager who leads and delivers activities that involve young people and children is a highly experienced teacher and Head Mentor Tutor at Ryburn Valley Sixth Form where she helped create one of the first LGBTQIA+ support groups in Calderdale.
